This is not a public computing
facility. The MCVL facility was established by Drs. Zhuang and
Palaniappan and is dedicated to research only. Having an account here
is a privilege, not a right. Not abiding by the policies below will
result in immediate termination of the user's account.
Abide by all University of Missouri
computer usage policies and restrictions as specified in the documents:
The lab is for research only.
Personal unrelated jobs, unnecessary Web page browsing, or homework
assignments cannot be done using MCVL
resources. For classwork you should be using IATS facilities.
Do not share your password or user account privileges include disk
usage with any other user or anyone else. This is a computer security
violation and can result in immediate termination of your account.
Installing any software or hardware
on the UNIX workstations or PCs in MCVL must be coordinated through the
system managers (i.e. Hai Jiang, Feng Chang or Joshua Fraser). Individual
users are not allowed to modify hardware or system software
configurations.
Do not install or change
network address information or connect PCs to the network
(especially for new PCs) without prior explicit approval from Feng
Chang, Dr. Palaniappan and Dr. Springer. Improperly configured PCs
have caused a lot of embarrassment and network problems in the
past.
Several machines have restricted access
for a few users based on funded projects. These machines are the Octanes,
Onyx2 and Origin 2000: meru, bochi,
viking, explorer, voyager and voyager2. You login will typically not work
on these machines and you should not be using them if you do not have
permission. Note: In order to provide E-mail services, we cannot
restrict access to meru in the same manner as the other four computers.
(However, you are not allowed to log onto meru!)
Do not reboot computers, especially
workstations whose hard disks can be easily damaged.
Only research related material
can be stored under your account. Offensive material is strictly forbidden.
When you do not use the machine,
please log off when you leave for an extended period of time so that other
lab members can use the workstation. And use xlock when you step away from the console for a short period of time. This is to ensure system security.
Respect the rights of others by not
abusing disk storage usage or violating privacy rights.
Do not try to obtain confidential
information.
The last person leaving the lab must
make sure that both doors of Rm. 350 are locked.
Absolutely no food or drink is
allowed in the MCVL.
